Continuous Subterranean Logistics

A functioning TBM is an apex logistical chokepoint. The mechanical efficiency of the cutterhead is entirely reliant on the trailing backup gantries, which can extend over 100 meters behind the machine, housing electrical transformers, hydraulic power packs, grout batching plants, and continuous belt conveyors.

Multi-Service Vehicle (MSV) Networking

In smaller diameter bores, continuous rail networks are deployed. However, in larger modern excavations, rubber-tired Multi-Service Vehicles (MSVs) transport precast segments, ventilation ducting, and cutter ring replacements to the backup gantry. Coordination is managed via fiber-optic communication nodes strung along the tunnel wall, ensuring zero-collision dispatch logic.

Spoil Evacuation Mathematics

A 10-meter diameter TBM advancing at 50mm per minute generates approximately 4 cubic meters of bulked spoil per minute. This requires a continuous cascading belt conveyor system operating at 2.5 m/s, strictly tensioned and suspended from the tunnel crown to avoid MSV traffic interference.
